Jitesh Sharma played the best knock of his IPL career on Tuesday (May 27) to help Royal Challengers Bengaluru chase down the target of 228 runs against Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2025 match played at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. The 31-year-old wicketkeeper-batter who was leading the Bengaluru-based franchise in the last league match of the IPL this year came out to bat at No. 6 and, with the help of eight fours and six sixes, scored 85 runs from just 33 balls.
His 85-run knock helped RCB win the match by six wickets and book their place in the first qualifier of IPL 2025 by securing a top-two finish. By scoring 85 runs as a No. 6 batter on Tuesday, Jitesh broke MS Dhoni’s all-time IPL record of most runs by a No. 6 or lower batter in successful IPL run chases.
During the CSK-RCB IPL 2018 match played in Bengaluru on April 25, Dhoni hammered 70 runs from just 34 balls for the Chennai-based franchise as a No. 6 batter. His feat was matched by KKR’s Andre Russell during the IPL 2022 match played between the Knight Riders and Punjab Kings at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 1, 2022.
Highest scores from No. 6 or lower in successful IPL run chases
85*(33) – Jitesh Sharma (RCB) vs LSG, Lucknow, 2025
70* (34) – MS Dhoni (CSK) vs RCB, Bengaluru, 2018
70*(31) – Andre Russell (KKR) vs PBKS, Mumbai (Wankhede), 2022
70(47) – Kieron Pollard (MI) vs RCB, Bengaluru, 2017

For his superb show with the bat, Jitesh won the Player of the Match award. The former Punjab Kings star added 107 runs for the fifth wicket with Mayank Agarawal (41 from 23 balls).
The 107-run stand between Jitesh and Mayank is the highest for RCB for the 5th wicket or lower in a run chase, bettering 91* between AB de Villiers & Iqbal Abdullah against Gujarat Lions in 2016 Qualifier 1.
The win over LSG on Tuesday was RCB’s seventh win away from home this season. The Bengaluru-based franchise is the only team in IPL history to win all league matches played away from home. In IPL 2025, RCB defeated KKR by 7 wickets in Kolkata, CSK by 50 runs in Chennai, MI by 12 runs in Mumbai, Rajasthan Royals by 9 wickets in Jaipur, Punjab Kings by 7 wickets in Mullanpur, Delhi Capitals by 6 wickets in Delhi and Lucknow Super Giants by 6 wickets in Lucknow.
