Jofra Archer Set To Put The Brakes On Shubman Gill's Century Fest? Big Update
@Source: news18.com
England seem to have hit the SOS button after being robbed in Birmingham. Shubman Gill’s India packed a powerful punch on Ben Stokes’ Three Lions and ended up breaching Fort Edgbaston. The visitors won the second Test by 336 runs – their biggest victory in away Tests by a margin of runs; and levelled the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 1-1. The humiliating loss has prompted England to call for help. Head coach Brendon McCullum has confirmed that Jofra Archer is ‘ready to go’ and could be recalled for the third Test against India at Lord’s, starting Thursday. “He’ll certainly be available for selection. Our seamers have gone two Tests on the spin and we’ve got a short turnaround before we head down to HQ. We’ll let the dust settle on this one, but Jofra is looking fit, he’s looking strong, he’s looking ready to go, and he’ll come into calculations. It’s hugely exciting,” ESPN Cricinfo quoted McCullum as saying. Archer, sidelined for four years due to injuries, was part of the squad for the second Test but did not play as India levelled the series 1-1 at Edgbaston. The right-arm quick has bowled just 18 first-class overs this season for Sussex but remains in contention. “He’s loving being around the group, and it’s great to have him. He’s obviously been through his injuries and his time out of Test cricket. But we all know what he’s capable of achieving in Test cricket, and we hope that when the opportunity does arrive for him, he’s able to recapture and also improve on what he’s been able to do already in that form of the game,” McCullum added. With both teams likely to alter their pace attacks, India have already confirmed Jasprit Bumrah’s return after he was rested for the second Test. The first two witnessed a remarkable 11 centuries, underlining the dominance of the batters. Leading the run-fest is India captain Shubman Gill. His stellar performance in Birmingham took his series tally to a staggering 585 runs, highlighting his class and consistency. His efforts have been game-changing as India bounced back to level the series.
