John Terry gives Jack Grealish 'start looking' transfer advice as Aston Villa rumours swirl

Former Aston Villa coach and Premier League-winning captain John Terry believes Jack Grealish may have to 'get out of City' soon to revive his England career. Grealish, who joined Manchester City from Villa for a record-breaking £100million in 2021 was left out from Thomas Tuchel's first squad selection as England boss . He was also omitted from the Three Lions squad for the European Championships last year. The 29-year-old has only earned a handful of Premier League starts for City this campaign, picking up just a sole assist in 16 outings. "Jack's not the type of player who wants to be sitting on the bench," Terry told TalkSport Breakfast. "I think he's at his best when he's playing week in, week out when he's dominating - he's one of those players that takes it on the back foot and drives the team forward. "So, I think, for him, he needs to start playing and probably needs to start looking at his options because, plainly, Man City have not been great this year. "From his side, I'd be a little bit worried and go 'Maybe I need to get out' because England means the world to him. And, I have to say, all eyes are on him always and it's difficult. He's a young boy with a lot of pressure on his shoulders." Grealish has earned 34 England caps, with the last appearance coming from interim boss Lee Carsley's fixtures against Ireland and Finland after the Euro 2024 exclusion. "I've never seen anyone work so hard at a football club when I was at Villa and got a real insight into that as well and how much football means to him in general," Five-time Premier League winner Terry continued. "He's obsessed, watches everything, knows everything that's happening like we, we've done something at Villa on a set play and he was like, no, they don't do that, they do this, and he knew exactly what they were doing, what the opposition we're doing so in terms of that, I think it'll be good for him to kind of maybe weigh up his options." Since arriving from Villa Park, Grealish has lost his spot in Pep Guardiola's side, with game time decreasing year-on-year. In the summer, Manchester City signed Brazilian winger Savinho before adding Omar Marmoush to their ranks in January after a disappointing start to the season. Terry added: "I'm not saying to leave Man City because they're one of the top teams in the world, but I think he needs to ask questions. Am I gonna be part of this in the future? "But Jack is an unbelievable talent, and I think he's at his best when he's got the freedom of that. So he probably needs the managers to give him the license to be, go and be Jack Grealish and play a game like really wants to see it."
