Baghdad, May 17 (QNA) - King Abdullah II of Jordan reaffirmed that the future, security, and stability of the region hinge on a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian cause, emphasizing that the resilience of the Palestinian people on their land defines the current phase. In a speech delivered on his behalf by the Chief of the Royal Hashemite Court, Dr. Jaafar Hassan, on Saturday during the 34th Arab Summit convened in Baghdad, Iraq, King Abdullah II underscored that the foremost priority today is to halt the war on Gaza and end the ensuing humanitarian catastrophe. He stressed the imperative for concerted efforts to achieve an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza and to ensure the prompt and sufficient delivery of humanitarian aid to the Strip. King Abdullah II pointed out that the international community has failed to end the war on Gaza, which has breached all international laws and norms, calling for galvanizing an international position in support of a plan for the reconstruction of Gaza. Violations and assaults in Jerusalem and the West Bank, as well as the seizure of land and the construction of settlements, will never bring security and peace to the Israeli entity, but rather mire the region in a cycle of conflicts and historic wars, the King of Jordan stressed. He underscored that Jordan stands side by side with the brothers in Lebanon and supports their efforts to maintain the sovereignty of their homeland and operationalize the state institutions. The King of Jordan further called for the consolidation of all efforts to resolve the crises afflicting the region, foremost among them the imperative of ending the Yemeni crisis in accordance with established references, supporting the political process aimed at reaching a nationally-driven resolution to the Libyan conflict, and ensuring that Sudan regains its civil peace. Addressing the summit, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam affirmed that Lebanon has turned a new page in its history, one rooted in a firm commitment to reform across all sectors and in restoring the exclusive authority of the state over all arms and instruments of power. He further stated that Lebanon is working to assert the sovereignty of the state over the entirety of its national territory, underscoring that Arab support remains a core pillar in advancing this objective. Salam called on the international community to pressure the Israeli occupation forces into withdrawing from Lebanese soil. He stressed that Lebanon's foreign policy pushes back on meddling in the internal affairs of other nations. Lack of accountability paves the way for the Israeli occupation forces to continue their violations, as Lebanon pushes back on all attempts to transfer or displace the Palestinian people, Salam underlined. In remarks delivered to the summit on behalf of Algeria's President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Attaf highlighted that the Palestinian cause, long regarded as the Arabs’ central issue, is now staring down the barrel of deliberate liquidation schemes. Tebboune lambasted the Israeli occupation’s relentless push to enforce its absurd, scorched-earth blueprint for peace, one erected atop the rubble of the Palestinian struggle. Under this dystopian vision, he said, neighboring states are stripped of the bare minimum of security, stability, and peace of mind, while Israel walks away with unchecked hegemony, no oversight, no accountability, and not a single challenger in sight. The region is indeed at a pivotal and consequential juncture, one in which we will have no decisive say unless due regard is restored to the principles, foundations, and aspirations that bind the region beneath the umbrella of this very organization, principles through which the region collectively shares both present and future, added Tebboune. Tebboune called for greater solidarity with Lebanon and Syria, underscoring that the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of both nations remain an inseparable component of the overarching equation of security and stability across the entire Middle East. He further urged the revival of missed opportunities, efforts, initiatives, and endeavors that have thus far fallen short in resolving the raging crises in Sudan, Libya, Yemen, and Somalia. (QNA)
