Kylian Mbappe scored an incredibly unorthodox goal for Real Madrid against Manchester City which left his teammates in laughter. The defending European champions travelled to Manchester in the Champions League knockout playoff round first leg in a blockbuster encounter that Los Blancos won 3-2 in dramatic fashion. Madrid went behind when Erling Haaland slammed home from six yards out, but after missing numerous chances and surviving two City chances that hit the crossbar, Mbappe drew Los Blancos level on the hour mark. A free-kick on the edge of the City box hit the wall before the ball deflected back to Dani Ceballos. The former Arsenal man clipped a pass towards the six-yard box where Mbappe latched onto the end of the ball. Despite throwing himself through the air and looking to make a perfect connection with his volley, the ball instead sliced off the outside of his boot and looped in slow motion into the back of the net – wrong footing Ederson. As the Madrid players made their way back to the centre circle, cameras picked up Mbappe, Vinicius and Bellingham shared a joke in the immediate aftermath of the goal as all three laughed together. While a third added: “How lucky was that!” City got their noses ahead again when Haaland converted from the penalty spot 80 minutes in. But Real hit back for a second time as former City youngster Brahim Diaz fired home to level the scores up just six minutes later. The drama didn’t finish there as Mr Clutch himself Bellingham tapped in the winner in the final minute of added time as Vinicius Jr pounced on hesitant defending from Rico Lewis to take a one goal aggregate lead to the Santiago Bernabeu as Pep Guardiola watched his City side collapse again.
