Jurgen Klopp, the former Liverpool manager, has strongly criticised the revamped Club World Cup, calling it the "worst idea ever implemented in football."
Klopp expressed his concerns in an interview with German newspaper Die Welt, highlighting the increased strain the tournament would place on players.
The expanded Club World Cup format will feature 32 teams and be held every four years during the pre-season, between major international tournaments.
He warned that the additional competition could lead to unprecedented injuries and prevent players from having adequate physical and mental recovery.
Klopp, who now serves as head of global soccer for Red Bull, also stated that he does not wish to return to coaching.
