PETER O'MAHONY sent a cheeky parting message to Scotland fans for giving him the "biggest compliment I've ever received".
The Munster titan started for Ireland in their bonus point Six Nations win at Murrayfield on Sunday.
He has a turbulent relationship with supporters of the Tartan Army having aimed a dig at them following the Rugby World Cup tie in 2023.
And he was at it again on Monday afternoon when he shared to Instagram a photograph of the players celebrating the victory.
He said; "Always great to win in an Irish jersey but particularly in Murrayfield.
"I’d like to say a special thanks to the crowd yesterday for the boos coming off the pitch. One of the biggest compliments I’ve ever received.
"Thank you."
Fans flocked to the comments to praise the 36-year-old for his sense of humour and cheeky dig at the Scots.
Kevin quipped: "Ah they love you really!" while a second follower said: "Sticks and stones etc …. The better man !!"
Pauline posted: "This is my favourite thing to read today" and Paula commented: "They fear the Wargod"
Rob said: "Just like Taylor Swift!" in reference to the singer being BOOED during the Super Bowl between Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.
O'Mahony got the last laugh on a day on which Sam Prendergast came of age in his first away start in the Six Nations.
The 21-year-old kicker 12 points and was involved in two of Simon Easterby's side's tries in Edinburgh.
He was cheered on by his parents Mark and Ciara, sister Lara, and girlfriend Anna Walsh.
Such was Prendergast's performance in Edinburgh that it drew high praise from Ronan O'Gara, who said it was "scary" he was only 21.
He said: "He was really, really good, it's scary to think he's only 21.
"Maybe that's how players are changing and young players coming into it feel a little bit more comfortable.
"He didn't show any nerves. He showed very little - I suppose - respect for an away game and he looked very, very comfortable.
"If that's what he's doing at 21, imagine what he'll be doing at 25 and 26. We've a really good prospect on our hands.
"With the environment he's in, he'll be kept on his toes because he knows Jack Crowley is biting at his heel, he knows winning has become a habit and if you want to drive standards you need to be really good.
"Being in the Irish team isn't good enough for them anymore, they want to be man-of-the-match, they want to be talked about by their peers."
