@Source: newsweek.com
Justin Thomas has done something special. During the opening round of The PLAYERS Championship, Thomas found himself at 8-over and staring at one of the worst starts of his PGA Tour career.He closed the round with two birdies to get in at 6-under. Yet, it was going to take some magic just to reach the weekend.Nevermind making the cut, Thomas set the golfing world on fire during Friday's second round at TPC Sawgrass.The two-time major champion has miraculously given himself at winning the actual tournament.Through 17 holes, Thomas was 11-under par. Yes, you read that right.TPC Sawgrass yielded an insane round of golf. The course record was set two years ago by Tom Hoge, who carded a 10-under 62.Sadly, Thomas put a ball in the water on 18, ruining his chances at setting the course record.Nevertheless, his play left golf fans on social media losing their minds."Regardless of what happens on 18 for Justin Thomas, it was a helluva round for him and something he needed for his confidence," one user wrote on X, formerly Twitter."Justin Thomas is as dialed as dialed gets on a golf course right now. That course record at Sawgrass is trembling at the moment," another user wrote.Another user was not going to be able to handle themself had he set the record."So what do we do if Justin Thomas backs his 78 up with a course record?"Following going into the drink on 18, Thomas made a beautiful chip to a few feet. He tapped in and carded a record-tying 10-under 62.Despite dropping the shot on 18, Thomas still made history at The PLAYERS. He now sits alone with the most birdies in a round at TPC Sawgrass with 11.He'll enter the weekend at 4-under for the tournament, seven shots back of Akshay Bhatia and Min Woo Lee, who had some magic himself.More Golf: Max Homa, Viktor Hovland Atrocious Play Continues at The PLAYERS
