Justin Thomas, PGA Tour Players 'Beyond Exhausted' with LIV Golf Merger Talk
@Source: newsweek.com
Justin Thomas put into words the sentiment he believes is present among his colleagues when it comes to negotiations with the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF). Thomas feels that fatigue over the issue is not only a danger among PGA Tour members, but has already caught up with the majority."Definitely has," he said.The two-time Major champion addressed the issue during a pre-tournament press conference at The PLAYERS Championship. In his words, he and his fellow players are beyond the level of weariness that might be expected from the situation."I think this is like the third time I've played this tournament while this has been going on in some way, shape or form," Thomas told the media. "Yeah, I think we're kind of, like, past the level of exhaustion. At least it's not consuming everything we're being asked about.""You just get a couple things here and there, but there's just so many of us, really on both sides, both us on TOUR and I think the LIV players, that we don't really know what's going on and we're just playing golf and hoping for the best."However, Justin Thomas, who is already thinking ahead to the Ryder Cup, understands the importance of the negotiations."I think it's very obvious we all just want to get it resolved," he said, "but this is something that's pretty serious, so it's not like you or anybody can say, 'all right, this is what we're going to do' without it being perfect.""I think obviously everybody needs to be on the same page, and I think when it gets to that level, I don't know if the government's getting involved, like, there's just so many things above my pay grade that are involved, that I don't know about, that I probably shouldn't or can't speak to because there's just so many things involved in it. But obviously like the rest of us, we would love for it to be done sooner rather than later."Negotiations between the PGA Tour and the PIF began in 2023, and a framework agreement was announced by both entities in June of that year. However, the process has dragged on to this day with little indication that it is nearing completion.In recent months, contacts between the two sides have intensified. This has gone as far as the Oval Office, where the President of the United States, Donald Trump, hosted the top officials of the PGA Tour and the PIF last month in an effort to move the negotiations forward.Initial reports from the PGA Tour camp after the meeting sounded optimistic. However, it was revealed recently that PIF Governor Yasir Al-Rummayan was allegedly 'felt disrespected' with what the Tour had to offer.There does not appear to be an end in sight to golf's great schism.More Golf: Support for Tiger Woods Pours In Amid Devastating Achilles Rupture News
