Kagiso Rabada picked five wickets for 51 runs in 15.4 overs for South Africa on Wednesday (June 11) to help them bowl defending champions Australia out for 212 runs in the first innings of the WTC 2025 final. In the match currently underway at Lord’s, Rabada opened his wicket account by removing Usman Khawaja (0 from 20 balls) in the seventh over and then picked up Cameron Green’s (4 runs from 3 balls) wicket in the same over.
In the post-tea season, he then clean bowled Australian captain Pat Cummins for 1 run and then got all-rounder Beau Webster caught out in the slips. By taking his fourth wicket of the first innings in the form of Webster, who made 72 from 92 balls, Rabada overtook Allan Donald and became the fourth-highest wicket-taker for the Proteas in the five-day format of the game.
The ongoing match at Lord’s is Rabada’s 71st Test for South Africa, and he has 332 wickets to his name. On the other hand, Donald finished his career with 330 wickets in 72 matches.
The overall record of taking the most wickets for South Africa in Test cricket is in the name of Dale Steyn. The legendary fast bowler played 93 Tests and dismissed 439 batters. He is followed by former captain Shaun Pollock (421) and Makhaya Ntini (390).

Shaun Pollock – 421

By taking five wickets in the first innings, Rabada also equalled New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson’s record. The 30-year-old pacer from Auckland is the only other bowler to take a five-wicket haul in the WTC final.
For South Africa, in the ongoing match, apart from Rabada, Marco Jansen picked up three wickets for 49 runs in 14 overs, and one Aussie batter each was sent back to the pavilion by Aiden Markram and Keshav Maharaj.
For Australia, apart from Webster, Steve Smith impressed with his batting, and with the help of 10 fours, he amassed a total of 66 runs from 112 balls. During his 66-run knock, Smith added 79 runs for the fifth wicket with Webster and also broke the record of scoring the most Test runs at Lord’s by a non-English batter.
