K10,000 boost from Isoaimo THE Minister for Energy and Member for Kairuku Peter Isoaimo showed his support with a K10,000 cheque plus a K2000 cash to the Kairuku East Schools Junior Rugby League on the weekend at Magabaira village. The Kairuku East Schools Junior Rugby League Competition is an Associate (Schools) League affiliated to the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League which was an initiative established in 2023 by a passionate Rugby League follower and former Varibi Eagles JRLC Club manager Heisi Andrew who took part in the Dabaris Junior Rugby League Competition in 2022. Seeing the passion and interest in the game back home in Kairuku District, around the Galley Reach area, from around Veimauri, Doa Plantation, the local Gabadi Villages and to Hisiu Villages the competition was kicked off last month in May. The competition hosts games at Magabaira village every Saturdays with a total of eight Clubs and the divisions are under 15 Boys, 17 Boys,19 Boys and 18 Girls. The competition is a pathway development initiative as most of the players taking part are students from the Galley Reach Cluster Schools of Deboismenu Primary School, Avabadina Primary School, Pinu Primary School and Hisiu Primary School. Mr Isoaimo said, “It is a good initiative. “School boy rugby league is something that can develop kids into professional rugby league players and you have that potential and opportunity today.” The Interim President Henry Hesi said the competition was registered in 2023 but they could not run due to financial issues. “Thank you, Mr Isoiamo for coming to Magabaira to support our kids in Kairuku district as we are always forgetting about our human development, so this is an important program where we can develop our human resources.” The competition plans to involve the elementary school kids from next year 2026 where they can take part in League Tag and Mini Mod games as this competition is a pathway development initiative.
