Kamau Leverock Available For National Team

Kamau Leverock has announced his decision to come out of international retirement and is available for selection in Bermuda’s upcoming cricket competitions.
The all-rounder initially stepped away from international duty 12 months ago following Bermuda’s exit from the Super Six Stage of the ICC World Cup Challenge League Play-off in Malaysia.
Leverock has since focused on franchise cricket, having been drafted by the Gujarat Giants in India’s Legends League Cricket [LLC] before representing the Voyagers in the Bim10 tournament in Barbados.
The 30-year-old said he was encouraged to come out of international retirement by some of his former national team-mates and has made the Bermuda Cricket Board [BCB] aware of his availability.
“It’s always great to represent your country,” Leverock told Bernews. “The reason I [retired] wasn’t because of the team itself, it was because of some discrepancies I had with the BCB.
“I’m going to change my approach this time and just go and have fun with my friends. I’ll leave the cricketing politics alone.
“I sent a letter of intent to the BCB on Friday [February 28]. The ball is now in the BCB’s court.”
Leverock, who was named the MVP at the ICC T20 World Cup Americas Regional Qualifier on home soil in October 2023, said he has enjoyed the past 12 months gaining new experiences at overseas franchise tournaments.
“I sacrificed quite a few [franchise tournaments] while playing for Bermuda,” he said.
“[Franchise] teams often stayed away from me because I had commitments with the Bermuda national team regarding World Cup qualifying competitions etc. Once I retired, more opportunities came my way.”
Bermuda are scheduled to play in the North American Cup in the Cayman Islands between April 18 and 27, where they will face the host nation, the Bahamas, Canada and the United States.
The tournament will serve as preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier Regional Final later this year.
“Hopefully, I’ll be selected for the upcoming tours,” Leverock added. “I’ll be looking to put my best foot forward.”
