Kay Burley's real reason for being forced off air at Sky News before exit revealed

Sky News icon Kay Burley took a step back from the limelight after suffering a severe allergic reaction that left her puffy-faced and unable to go on air. The seasoned broadcaster, aged 64, was notably absent from a scheduled broadcast, later revealing the cause to her social media fans with a candid selfie. Burley faced her 54,000 followers on Instagram looking visibly affected, sharing her situation with the caption: "When allergies prevent you from being on the TV. Sorry to have missed you all today." The exact trigger for Kay's allergic flare-up remains a mystery.
In other updates, Kay hasn't shied away from voicing her opinions on cosmetic enhancements. While on Countdown in 2021, she addressed previous surgeries, facing Anne Robinson's pointed inquiries head-on. Kay wittily responded: "Well, I didn't want to get mugged off by mother nature. My mother was dead when she was my age. I wanted to live my life as long as I could. I like looking good, and it brought me a bit more time,", reports the Mirror. Opening up about the experience, she shared her perspective: "It actually isn't a very painful experience. It's just a traumatic experience because obviously I get paid for what I look like to a certain extent, and it's a bit of a risk, but thankfully - and hopefully - it paid off."
Kay recently opened up about her own cosmetic procedure, revealing that she opted for a lower facelift focusing on her neck and jawline. She quipped, "It's a bit like an Essex facelift where you pull your hair up behind and see what you look like."
The results are set to keep her looking fabulous for the next ten years, with the surgery taking just one to two hours under general anaesthetic.
In a surprising turn of events, the veteran news anchor bid farewell to Sky News after an incredible 36-year tenure. The iconic presenter, who graced our screens every weekday morning from 7am to 10am, made her emotional exit announcement live on air, leaving viewers in shock as she declared it was her final show.
The 64 year old broadcasting legend who has been with Sky News since its inception in 1989, had fans worried about her absence last May when she disappeared from our screens for several weeks. Throughout her illustrious career, which saw her deliver breaking news and headlines, Kay herself became the subject of media buzz – from making Peter Andre shed tears during an interview to boldly challenging Michael Gove's bizarre conspiracy theories.
After swirling rumours in December about her potential departure, Kay confirmed the speculation today as she signed off from the Sky News Breakfast programme. Reflecting on her journey, she expressed her gratitude: "From a standing start to one of the most recognised and valued brands in global news, it's been an honour and privilege to work with some of the best and hardest working teams in the business.
"News by its very nature is often devastating and together we've covered so many life-changing events - from the tragic death of Diana, the shocking terror attack of 9/11; the Asian Tsunami; the Concorde air disaster.
"But we've also enjoyed some wonderful high notes too, haven't we - the thrill of London winning the chance to host the 2012 Olympics; a plethora of royal weddings; jubilees and who can forget days and days and DAYS waiting for royal babies to arrive at the Lindo Wing.
"But after over a million minutes of live TV news - more than anyone else in the world - its time for me to indulge in some of my other passions - including my love for travel. So, after covering 12 separate general elections - including Sir Keir Starmer's victory last year - I am retiring from Sky News - let politicians of every party just rejoice at that news!" she joked as she referenced her numerous clashes with MPs over the years, before adding: "Thank you for waking up and tuning in every morning. I can't tell you how much I have appreciated your support over the last three and a half decades: You're awesome. I will post more on my social media and hope to see you around. Please keep in touch."
