Keegan Bradley meant ‘no disrespect’ to Europe with ‘kick their f**king ass’ vow

The fiery New Englander (38) wants to make his own team automatically and showed he’s capable when he overcame rock-hard greens and winds gusting to 40kmh at Bay Hill to fire a three-under 69 to take the clubhouse lead in the Arnold Palmer Invitational. “I’m gonna get criticised as the captain next year,” Bradley said in comments captured on the Netflix docuseries Full Swing. “They’re gonna underestimate me. They’re going to doubt me. I’ve been doubted my whole f**king life. That’s when I do my best work.” Then he added: “We are gonna go to Bethpage to kick their f**king ass.” Bradley made his comments in the locker room at Royal Montreal, moments after getting the winning point for the USA, and while he admitted today he should have been more careful around the cameras, he didn’t believe his comments would give Luke Donald’s troops more motivation. “Well, I certainly thought I was in the locker room,” said Bradley, who led by a shot from Australians Cam Davis and Min Woo Lee as defending champion Scottie Scheffler opened with a 71. “But, you know, in the world that we live in, I’ve got to be more aware that there’s always somebody filming. Again, I meant no disrespect, but we were excited. “I had just won the Presidents Cup that I hadn’t played in 10 years, it was an exciting moment for me … and it was my turn to address the team, and I meant no disrespect; I was more speaking to our guys.” As for motivating Europe, he said: “I mean, maybe. I don’t think the Europeans need any more motivation to win the Ryder Cup. “When the Ryder Cup comes along, they really seem to come together and play their best golf. So, I think that they’re motivated enough to beat us.” Meanwhile, in the Joburg Open, China’s Wenyi Ding and England’s Jordan Smith fired seven-under 63s at Houghton to lead by a shot from South Africa’s Malcolm Mitchell and Jayden Schaper, England’s Marco Penge and Callum Tarren, and Germany’s Nicolai Von Dellingshausen.
