Keegan Bradley Weighs LIV Golf Lack of Analytics for Ryder Cup Spots
@Source: newsweek.com
It may be the week of the PGA Championship, but the Ryder Cup is never off the table, at least not when it comes to Keegan Bradley. Talking about the biennial event at every opportunity comes with the job, and the American team captain knows it.Among the many, many issues on Bradley's plate is the subject of LIV Golf players. So far, his statements have been along the lines of Bryson DeChambeau and company being eligible to make the team, but the issue is not simple.It so happens that LIV Golf does not offer much statistical data on its players' performance, at least publicly, and it is not as if Bradley can evaluate them by eye since they obviously do not play together that much.Despite this stumbling block, the 2011 PGA Championship winner said there are other methods of assessing the form of the players in the Saudi-backed league:"Listen, we've got...these guys are playing in all four of the majors, so we'll have that," Bradley said. "These guys, a lot of them are up in these leaderboards every major. We'll see how the year shapes out.""The data is a little less at LIV. We don't have quite the same stats that we have out here, but we have some. We know winning and contending on any tour at any level is difficult. I don't care where you play. I played the mini-tours. Winning there was difficult. Winning on the LIV is difficult. You can see guys...winning a LIV event is a big deal."Bradley reiterated his mindset of not looking at which circuit they play on when selecting the best players:" We're trying to put the best team together. It could mean there's one LIV guy, two LIV guys, it doesn't matter. We'll see how this year shakes out."The U.S. team is selected for the Ryder Cup based on a points system created to rank the players. The top six players on the list qualify directly for the team, while the other six are selected by the captain with the help of his vice-captains.Currently, Scottie Scheffler tops the ranking, followed by Xander Schauffele and Justin Thomas. Bryson DeChambeau (4th) is the highest ranked LIV player, while Collin Morikawa and Russell Henley complete the top 6.No other member of the Saudi-backed league is currently ranked in the top 12. The second highest ranked LIV Golf player is Patrick Reed (25th).More Golf: Ryder Cup Asst. Captain Gets Nod as Lead Man for 2026 Presidents Cup
