The ALS Society of BC is one step closer to its goal of raising $250,000 in 2025, thanks to four golf professionals from Gallagher’s Canyon Golf Club.
Alex Martin, Josh Johnston, Brandon Smith, and Head Professional Lee Alarie managed to raise $5,100 for the charity by playing 102 holes in the 20th annual PGA of BC Golfathon for ALS.
The event challenges golf professionals across British Columbia to play as many holes of golf in a day to raise awareness and funds for ALS BC’s patient programs and services.
“The Golfathon for ALS is such an important day for all of us here at Gallagher's Canyon," said Alarie.
“This disease has touched every one of us in one way or another. We are honoured to be a part of this fantastic community of PGA of BC professionals helping raise awareness and funds for patients in need."
The group spent a total of seventeen and half hours on the Canyon Course on June 24th, starting at 4:30 a.m.
The foursome battled the darkness through the final stretch, and their last putts fell at approximately 10 p.m.
Over the past 19 years Gallagher’s Canyon Golf Club has raised over $40,000 to benefit the society.
“All of this could not be possible without the generous support of the Membership at Gallagher's Canyon," says Alarie.
Since its inception, the PGA of BC Golfathon for ALS has raised over $3 million. The money has been used to support Camp Alohi Lani summer camp for children affected by ALS, as well as to purchase equipment to enhance patients' quality of life through the Robert R. Heinrich Equipment Loan Program.
“The team at Gallagher’s Canyon have been strong supporters of the Golfathon for ALS for a long time now”, said Donald Miyazaki, ALS BC’s executive director.
With over 700 dedicated golf professionals at more than 200 golf facilities across the province, the PGA of BC plays a vital role in advancing the game of golf while fostering leadership in the community.
The ALS Society of BC's PGA of BC Golfathon for ALS fundraising program has a goal of raising $250,000 in 2025 through over 30 facilities and events. All of the funds raised in B.C. stay within the province, directly benefiting ALS patients and their families.
Donations are accepted online until the end of the year.
