Kieran Tierney Arsenal fan pleas ignored as Celtic bound star faces Champions League agony
@Source: dailyrecord.co.uk
Kieran Tierney watched in despair from the bench as Arsenal suffered an agonising Champions League defeat to PSG. The Celtic -bound star, 27, was an unused sub as the Gunners went down 1-0 to the French giants in the semi-final first leg at the Emirates. Ousmane Dembele silenced the home crowd with an early opener as he combined with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to squeeze a shot past David Raya inside three minutes. Makeshift striker Mikel Merino thought he'd equalised just moments into the second-half, only for VAR to rule the Spaniard offside and deny the hosts a lifeline. Now, Mikel Arteta's side face an uphill task to salvage the tie in Paris next week and book their place in May's showpiece final. Tierney - who will complete an emotional return to Celtic Park in the summer - had featured in all four Champions League knockout games for Arsenal, who saw off Real Madrid and PSV in the previous rounds. But the Scotland star wasn't called upon on Tuesday night, much to the bemusement of Gooners who had been calling for the versatile defender - who has also been utilised as a left-winger at Arsenal - to be thrown on for Leandro Trossard. As Arsenal chased a priceless leveller, one fan wrote on X: "Kieran Tierney ON please." Another pleaded: "I'd take subbing on Kieran Tierney or Zinchenko for Trossard rn." A third added: "I forgot Kieran Tierney was available too. Bring him on for Trossard." Arsenal will now attempt to save their Champions League dreams next Wednesday at the Parc des Princes.
