Kilmarnock secured their Premiership status with two games to spare after picking up a third successive win thanks to a 3-2 victory over Dundee at Rugby Park. With all the pre-match chatter being about boss Derek McInnes and a possible move to Hearts, Killie showed no signs of that have any impact as they came out firing. Bruce Anderson should have opened the scoring early on as he passed up an absolute sitter from close range. But Killie were able to make their dominance count on the half hour mark when Don Robertson pointed to the spot after Liam Donnelly had been fouled by Seb Palmer-Houlden. Danny Armstrong confidently smashed the ball beyond Trevor Carson for the only goal in the first half. They would pass up chances to extend their lead before coming unstuck on 76 minutes when Donnelly was caught in possession. Oluwasean Adewumi pounced and slotted through Lyall Cameron to find the net. Parity lasted seconds as the hosts promptly went up the other end and restored their advantage thanks to Donnelly's wonderful cross being nodded into the net by Anderson with Killie doubling their lead in the first of nine minutes added-on as Robbie Deas powered a header home at the back post. That appeared to be game, set and match but Cameron turned on the edge of the box and found the bottom corner with four minutes remaining. Killie ensured there was no grandstand finish, although Kieran O'Hara was required to produce a fine save to deny Josh Mulligan in the closing moments. McInnes named an unchanged starting line-up from their 2-0 away win over St Johnstone last weekend. They went into the clash knowing a win would secure their top flight safety and they looked keen to get that done and dusted early doors. The hosts were on the front foot and passed up two chances in the opening minutes. An Armstrong corner was headed goalwards by Deas with Anderson unable to turn the rebound home. Moments later, the striker passed up a glorious opportunity as Corrie Ndaba charged through the Dees backline before teeing up the unmarked Anderson. He elected to go first time, and failed to get a proper connection with only the keeper to beat. The 26-year-old had more than enough time to settle himself before firing at goal but rushed the opportunity. After starting slowly, Dundee grew into the contest and the ever dangerous Simon Murray was on the prowl for a goal. He harmlessly dragged an effort wide before attempting to curl one in the top corner from 20 yards that called O'Hara into action with a fine save to palm away the danger. The game died down after that fast start with neither side able to control the flow of the contest. But Killie were presented with a glorious chance on the half hour mark as Donnelly was barged in the back by Palmer-Houlden inside the box. Whistler Robertson had no hesitation in pointing to the spot, with Armstrong confidently smashing home the penalty to open the scoring. Killie came out flying after the interval with the early stages played almost exclusively in the Dundee defensive third. The second should have arrived on 50 minutes when Fraser Murray sent through the overlapping Ndaba but he blazed harmlessly high and wide. Murray was a threat all afternoon and his whipped free-kick moments later was glanced agonisingly wide by Stuart Findlay. Adewumi was introduced by Dees gaffer Tony Docherty as he looked for a way back into the contest. And the Austrian winger almost provided in three minutes after his introduction. He showed neat footwork and skill to turn Deas, but fluffed his lines at the crucial moment with a tame strike straight at O'Hara. The away side thought they may have had a way back into the contest when referee Robertson was sent to the screen to review a possible penalty for a potential foul on Murray from Killie skipper Kyle Vassell - but elected to stand by his on field decision not to award the spot kick. They had their tails up, though, and bagged their equaliser with 15 minutes left, although there was a large helping hand from the hosts. Donnelly was caught in possession with Adewumi charging forward and slipping in Cameron who squeezed the ball past the keeper under pressure. From sinner to saint, Donnelly redeemed himself within seconds as the Northern Irishman clipped a terrific cross into the box that was emphatically headed home by Anderson as Killie restored their lead. Far from settling there, the home side went searching for a third goal. Rory McKenzie was played in by Vassell and could only offer an instinctive strike straight at Carson, while the skipper himself was repelled by keeper - only for Deas to meet the resulting corner and head home his first goal of the season. Cameron made it an interesting final few minutes as he found the bottom corner from the edge of the box, with O'Hara called into action to claw away a Josh Mulligan effort in the dying stages to keep hold of the three points.
