Kilmarnock winger insists door isn't closed on a return as he prepares to become free agent

Kilmarnock winger Danny Armstrong insists the door isn’t closed on a return to the club next season - but admitted he’ll take time to review all offers in the summer. The 27-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, his fourth at Rugby Park, and turned down a new deal earlier in the season. And the former Wolves youngster admitted he rejected moves to other clubs, including Hearts, to remain in Ayrshire this term. He bagged just his second goal of the campaign in last Saturday’s win over St Johnstone and is targeting a positive end to a frustrating campaign. Speaking to the media, he said: “It’s been a stop-start season for me. It’s not been from a lack of trying or any other distractions. Football’s football, it happens. Some people go through quiet periods and it’s about sticking through them. "My decision was that I wanted to stay at Kilmarnock. I was fully in touch with the gaffer over everything, we were absolutely fine. I decided to stay at Kilmarnock. I had options down south at the start of the season and turned that down as well. I felt at the time it wasn’t what I wanted to do and it wasn’t something that attracted me away from Kilmarnock. "People in house know it’s never been a distraction and I’ve always worked as hard as I always work. I’ve always given 100 per cent. I’ve not hit the numbers that I usually hit, which is fair, but I’m happy with the criticism because it only drives me on to do better. I’m glad the last few games have gone the way they have and I’ve been able to contribute.” As for his own future, he commented: “It’s about seeing what comes at the end of the season. There’s not been an offer put down since the last one and me and the gaffer have been clear on that. When the time’s right, we’ll have the conversation. "I want to be playing at the highest level possible. That’s not saying it’s not here, or it’s somewhere else. Thousands of players do it - I’ll sit down at the end of the season and look what options I’ve got and it will be a decision from there. I’ll talk to family, managers and see what happens. "It’s a scary time for everyone, I’ve got a young family so it’s about taking my time and making the right decision. I need to do what’s right.” He added: “I’ve loved all four years here. I’m proud of what I’ve done for this club and if I sit down at the end of the season and Kilmarnock is what I end up wanting to do, I’ll have no hesitation in doing it. "I love everyone connected with the club, I’ve got great friends here. It’s a wonderful place to be and I’d have no hesitation but I’ll focus on these three games and then decide at the end of the season.” Don't miss the latest Ayrshire headlines – sign up to our free daily newsletter here
