The Kiunga Rugby Football League (KRFL) has officially commenced its proper season matches yesterday, drawing a large crowd of spectators from the local community.
This year’s competition features ten teams: Highway Raiders, Tigers, Waliya, Brothers, Airport Norths, Rusa, Magani, Delta Skippers, Fly Warriors, and Storms.
In the first round of the Proper Season Matches:Highway Raiders faced Rusa, Tigers took on Magani, Waliya played against Delta Skippers, Brothers went head-to-head with Fly Warriors, and Airport Norths clashed with Storms.
B-Grade Results:Highway Raiders beat Rusa 6–0, Tigers defeated Magani 16–0, Waliya overcame Delta Skippers 10–0, Brothers and Fly Warriors drew 0–0, Airport Norths edged out Storms 10–4.
A-Grade Results:Rusa beat Highway Raiders 18–6, Tigers won over Magani 10–6, Waliya triumphed over Delta Skippers 14–6, Brothers and Fly Warriors drew 6–6, Airport Norths narrowly defeated Storms 8–6.
Games Coordinator Mr. Boseni Katahano told Post Courier Online that the league recently wrapped up its preseason games over the past weekends. He confirmed that the official season has now begun, and scores from these matches will count towards the league standings.
So far, six teams have completed their registration, while four others have been given until the end of the week to finalize theirs. If they fail to do so, the opportunity will be extended to teams from Ningerum and Tabubil upon their interest.
In addition to promoting local sportsmanship, the matches also offer an opportunity for mothers and families to earn an income through their little market sales while supporting their loved ones on the field.
