KKR Vs LSG IPL 2025 Match Likely To Be Rescheduled Due To Security Reasons: Report
@Source: news18.com
The April 6 match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Eden Gardens is likely to be rescheduled, as the city police have not given security clearance due to Ram Navami celebrations in West Bengal, according to news agency PTI.
This comes after Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari announced that over 20,000 processions will take place statewide for the festival, leading to heightened security requirements. Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Snehasish Ganguly held two rounds of discussions with the city police on Tuesday.
“They have categorically said they won’t be able to provide adequate security. If there’s no police protection, accommodating a 65,000-strong crowd becomes impossible,” Snehasish told PTI, confirming that authorities ‘have not given the go-ahead’ for the match. “We have informed the BCCI, and there is still time to take a final call. Even last year, a scheduled IPL match on Ram Navami had to be rescheduled.”
KKR and LSG are said to have a huge fan following in Kolkata which makes the situation even trickier for the authorities. Last season, the IPL fixture between KKR and Rajasthan Royals was also rescheduled for the same reasons.
The 2025 IPL season will begin at Eden Gardens on March 22, with defending champions KKR taking on Rajat Patidar’s Royal Challengers Bengaluru. There will be a lot of storylines in play, as Patidar will go against his Madhya Pradesh coach Chandrakant Pandit, who’s KKR’s head coach.
It’ll also be Ajinkya Rahane’s first match as the KKR captain and he’ll have a huge responsibility of managing the fan expectations given the team is the defending champion, plus won both legs against RCB.
A glittering 35-minute opening ceremony will precede the match, with likely performances by noted singers Karan Aujla, Shreya Ghoshal and actress Disha Patani. The event is also likely to be attended by ICC chairman Jay Shah and other dignitaries from the BCCI.
“It’s a marquee match with full demand for tickets. Eden Gardens is set to host an opening ceremony after a long time,” Snehasish said in the report, refusing to divulge details about the opening ceremony.
