KL Rahul Creates History, Becomes Fastest Batter To Score 5000 Runs In IPL

Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul is playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025, and on Tuesday (April 22) he entered his name in the history books by becoming the fastest batter to score 5000 runs in the Indian Premier League. The 32-year-old right-handed batter from Bengaluru needed 51 runs in the ongoing match between Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, and he achieved the objective by taking a single on the third ball of the 18th over of the 160-run chase.
Rahul, who joined DC for Rs 14 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction last year, crossed the 5000-run mark in his 130th inning of the 139th IPL match. He broke former Australian opening batter David Warner’s record. During his playing days in the IPL, Warner crossed the 5000-run mark in his 135th inning.

8th leading run getter
During his knock against LSG on Tuesday, Rahul went past Robin Uthappa (4952) and Chris Gayle (4965) to become the eighth leading run scorer in IPL history. Virat Kohli is the all-time leading run getter in the IPL with 8326 runs to his name in 260 matches, and he is followed by Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, David Warner, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni and AB de Villiers.
KL Rahul’s performance in IPL
Rahul made his IPL debut in the 2013 season, and in the last 12 years, he has played for five teams. He is the all-time leading run scorer in the world’s richest franchise league for Punjab Kings, who he was part of from 2018 to 2021, and LSG, who he played for from 2022 to 2024. In addition to that, Rahul has also scored 417 runs for RCB and 308 for SRH.
