Known Criminals Shot in San Pedro Golf Cart Ambush
A deadly ambush in San Pedro on Thursday night has left one man dead and another critically injured. Police reports are that just after 9 p.m. on July 3, 28-year-old Alfredo Trapp and 38-year-old Gabriel Villafranco Salazar were travelling in a golf cart through the San Mateo area in San Pedro Town when two men on a motorcycle opened fire.
Trapp was shot in the shoulder and chest and later died while receiving treatment at Ambergris Hope Hospital. Salazar sustained gunshot wounds to the abdomen and shoulder and was later airlifted to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City. His current condition remains unknown.
Police recovered eight expended 9mm shells at the scene.
Both Trapp and Salazar are well-known to police for alleged involvement in major crimes, including murder. Trapp was previously charged for the 2015 murder of a taxi driver and was named as a suspect in the 2022 killing of American tourist J’Bria Bowens. Salazar was charged in 2021 for the murder of Jerry Espat at sea.
