Even as ace India batter Virat Kohli’s presence on the cricket field turns negligible, his nephew Aaryaveer, son of his brother Vikas, has been named in the initial auction pool of the upcoming Delhi Premier League. Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag’s son, Aaryavir, also features in the list.
The auction of the upcoming tournament is scheduled for July 5.
The junior Kohli, unlike his uncle, is a legspinner and trains under Raj Kumar Sharma at the West Delhi Cricket Academy. He has been slotted in Category C, having been a registered cricketer for Delhi U16s in the 2024-25 season.
In Delhi cricket, registered cricketers are those who make it to the final team of 30.
Another young player with the same name, Aaryavir Sehwag, the teenage son of former India cricketer Virender Sehwag, features in the draft as well.
Aaryavir, who has played for Delhi U19 and also scored a brilliant 297 against Meghalaya, has been placed in Category B, besides his younger brother Vedant, another offspinner who has played for Delhi U16s like junior Kohli.
This year’s Delhi Premier League will feature eight franchises, with Outer Delhi and New Delhi teams joining the existing six: East Delhi Riders, North Delhi Strikers, West Delhi Lions, South Delhi Superstarz, Purani Dilli 6 and Central Delhi Kings.
Last year, Himmat Singh’s East Delhi bagged a thrilling three-run victory over Ayush Badoni’s South Delhi Superstarz to win the maiden edition of the tournament.
The first season gave rise to talents like Priyansh Arya and Digvesh Rathi, who went on to clinch big Indian Premier League contracts and did well for their respective franchises as well.
Priyansh, notably, played a big role in the Punjab Kings’ journey to the final. He had bagged attention when he smacked six sixes in an over on his way to 120 off 50 deliveries in a Delhi Premier League game, which got him a Rs 3.8 crore deal with Punjab. Priyansh scored 475 runs, including a hundred.
Rathi, who played a big role in the Lucknow Super Giants’ campaign, finished with 14 wickets in 13 matches.
