@Source: news18.com
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the last home game at the Eden Gardens of their 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign on Wednesday. The Knight Riders and the Super Kings have faced off in 31 match-ups with the Chennai-based franchise having the edge with 19 wins and only one game yielding a no result. In recent meetings, KKR have had the upper hand, winning three of the last five, including their previous meeting earlier in the season, when they outclassed CSK by 8 wickets at the Chepauk. KKR come into the contest on the back of two contrasting but crucial wins. RR, on the other hand, have already been eliminated from the playoff race and are on a three-game losing streak. What: IPL 2025, Match 57 – Kolkata Knight Riders vs Chennai Super Kings When: May 4, 2025 Where: Eden Gardens, Kolkata Time: 7:30 PM IST KKR Team News Andre Russell finally came good after being promoted up the batting order with a blistering fifty. His partner, Rinku Singh, is back with his cameos, but his participation is suspect after seemingly injuring himself in the field. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane, despite his injured hand, again proved why he has been his side’s best batter throughout the competition. Rahmanullah Gurbaz did get a start but failed to capitalise as Sunil Narine has faltered at the top of the order but KKR are still yet to post a 50-run opening stand this season. Angkrish Raghuvanshi has looked the most mature batter in the middle for KKR and is their second-highest run-scorer so far. Venkatesh Iyer, the side’s costliest pick at the auction, is yet to have a consistent run this season. In the bowling department, Vaibhav Arora has looked good with the new ball but has been mostly costly in the latter half of the innings. Harshit Rana, with his changes of pace and guile, has fared better. Yet the pair both have 13 wickets to their name so far. Leading the pack is Varun Chakaravarthy as the top wicket-taker. With 15 wickets to his name, the mystery spinner has been resolute in his role as the wrecker-in-chief in the middle overs. Narine has not let the opposition score runs in the middle overs, bowling well in tandem with his champion spin twin. Moeen Ali looked devastating against left-handers but has been taken apart when faced with right-handed batters. Russell has not ben required to bowl regularly but has eight crucial wickets and has been trusted to get his yorkers right at the close of the innings. KKR Probable Playing XI vs CSK: Rahmanullah Gurbaz (WK), Sunil Narine, Ajinkya Rahane (C), Venkatesh Iyer, Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Moeen Ali, Ramandeep Singh, Vaibhav Arora and Varun Chakaravarthy (Impact player: Angkrish Raghuvanshi/Harshit Rana) CSK Team News MS Dhoni has taken over the team and most of the blame for Chennai’s performance this season. The 43-year-old uncapped player has not been able to inspire his side to revive their fortunes and has become the first team to be eliminated from the playoff race. Ayush Mhatre and Dewald Brevis were brought in as injury replacements and have turned out to be CSK’s most promising batters this season with match-changing knocks. The all-round pair of Sam Curran and Ravindra Jadeja have had more luck with the bat in hand, with Shivam Dube too chipping in with important runs lower down the order. Dhoni himself has huffed and puffed in most chases but has not been able to see his side through. Noor Ahmad and Khaleel Ahmed are among the wickets along with Matheesha Pathirana, but all three have leaked runs. Only the Afghan spinner has been somewhat economical, but his case has been one of diminishing returns. Curran and Jadeja have been costly with the ball, undoing their own good work with the bat. CSK Probable Playing XI vs KKR: Shaik Rasheed, Ayush Mhatre, Sam Curran, Ravindra Jadeja, Dewald Brevis, Deepak Hooda, MS Dhoni (C/WK), Noor Ahmad, Anshul Kamboj, Matheesha Pathirana (Impact player: Khaleel Ahmed/Shivam Dube) KKR vs CSK Pitch Report Rains are not expected during the game, but thunderstorms are predicted in the build-up. The ‘Nor’westers’ may have an effect before the gam,e but will not affect the match. The pitch has a tinge of grass on the surface, but the top level should be mowed down before the start of the contest.
