The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has officially commissioned the Despite Automobile Museum, a stunning multi-million dollar facility in East Legon, Accra, dedicated to celebrating some of the most iconic and luxurious vehicles in automotive history. Founded by renowned businessman and media mogul Osei Kwame Despite, the museum represents the culmination of his over 30-year passion for collecting classic and high-end automobiles. Located on the grounds of the former Lizzy Sports Complex, the museum houses a curated selection of vintage and exotic cars that blend both educational and recreational appeal. The collection includes rare automotive gems such as classic Bugattis, a Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith LWB, several Bentley models, luxury Mercedes-Benz cars, Jaguars, and Harley Davidson motorcycles. Visitors can also experience modern driving simulators, designed to provide an immersive, hands-on journey through the evolution of motoring. Museum officials noted that what began as Mr. Despite’s private hobby has now been transformed into a public institution, offering car lovers and the general public a rare glimpse into one of Ghana’s most exclusive collections. Each vehicle tells a story, not just of engineering excellence, but also of cultural and historical relevance across decades. The opening ceremony was a star-studded affair, drawing a distinguished guest list that included former President John Agyekum Kufuor, entrepreneur Ibrahim Mahama, real estate developer Nana Kwame Bediako (Freedom Jacob Caesar), businessman Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong, and others as well as award-winning rapper Sarkodie. The Despite Automobile Museum aims to serve as a hub for auto enthusiasts, students, and tourists alike, offering a unique perspective on how far the world of motoring has come, from its earliest inventions to today's sleek, high-performance machines.
