A Louisiana man who admitted to traveling to New Jersey for sex with a 14-year-old was sentenced to eight years in prison, officials with the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
Spencer W. Caudle, 36, of Prairieville, Louisiana, previously pleaded guilty in October 2024 to charges that he intentionally traveled to New Jersey to engage in sexual conduct.
Caudle began communicating with the 14-year-old in a sexual nature through social media in April 2023, despite the teenager telling Caudle they were underage, officials said.
Caudle continued communicating with the teenager and expressed his desire to have sex with them, officials said.
On May 26, 2023, Caudle drove from Louisiana to Toms River and committed sexual acts on the 14-year-old the next day before driving back to Louisiana later that night, officials said.
Authorities began investigating the incident in June 2023 and Caudle eventually confirmed the prior sexual encounter to an undercover officer who had assumed the 14-year-old’s online identity, officials said.
While communicating with the undercover officer, Caudle made plans to return to New Jersey on June 16, 2023, to have another sexual encounter with the teenager, according to authorities.
Caudle booked a flight to New Jersey and was taken into custody at Newark Liberty International Airport when he arrived, officials said.
An attorney for Caudle did not immediately return a request for comment.
