‘Last Year’s Issues Addressed’: Max Verstappen On Red Bull’s Improvements For 2025

Four-time Formula 1 Champion Max Verstappen has revealed that Red Bull’s new car is significantly better than its predecessor. The 2024 F1 campaign saw Red Bull struggle with an unpredictable car with poor balance. During the F1 2025 pre-season testing in Bahrain, Verstappen opened up about the problems his team faced last year. While the Dutch-Belgian motorsport racer claimed the new Red Bull Formula 1 Challenger was a huge improvement, he acknowledged that the bar for improvement was not very high. “It can’t be worse than last year,” he said on day two of testing, as per Motorsport.
Max Verstappen clinched a fourth Formula 1 World Championship in 2024 despite falling to third behind McLaren and Ferrari in the Constructors’ standings. A poor mid-season development saw them win just two of the final 14 Grand Prix races compared to their seven wins in the opening 10 events.
In the same interview, Max Verstappen highlighted how Red Bull must follow the path they were on to improve their results in the 2025 season. “So I think the direction that we are working into is good. We just need to follow that and see how much we can extract,” he said. The multi-time World Champion, however, believed it was still early to conclude their car’s performance. “At the moment, it’s early days – a lot of things we are still discussing and wanting to improve. But yesterday I enjoyed it and that’s already a big difference from last year,” he added.
Max Verstappen was later asked how much influence he had been given on the development of the 2025 Challenger compared to previous models. “Some cars don’t need much influence. For myself and the team, at some point last year, we knew something was up,” he replied. “Of course, a few things have to be addressed, and that’s why quite a few things have changed. So I give my feedback on what I need – the car needs to go faster,r and that’s what we try to apply,” Verstappen added.
Red Bull dominated Formula 1 in 2023, winning 19 out of the 22 Grand Prix events. While they didn’t have the best showing last season, Max Verstappen will have eyes on winning the World Championship for a fifth time this year.
