Yeah, that guy is never getting out, and that's a good thing for the rest of us.

Ya, that guy kinda seems like the poster boy of why life sentences exist. He's tried to murder before, he's murdered people now, and he has written his intent to murder people in the future. I understand why his lawyer presented the argument, because everyone is entitled to a zealous defense... but the judge was right, we can't let repeated murderers/attempted murderers out with just a hope that maybe they'll change in the future... you've got to protect the rest of society from them, and the only way to do that is by keeping the offender away from the rest of society.

Prison systems tend to keep track of data on each prisoner so they know if they're a risk to other prisoners. It would seem obvious that someone this blatantly racist would be known and be well documented so that this totally avoidable death was prevented. It was careless of the prison to house them together to the point of depraved indifference

Maybe he did it on purpose, to get sent to solitary confinement. It happens.

Farkers regularly express a satisfaction to expect jailhouse justice for the worst of the worst and that's human nature when the legal system can produce feelings of helplessness to see justice served...
And then a scenario like this one reminds people jailhouse justice is not a reality and a barbaric chaos for which funding in a nation as large as the US is more challenging than, say, landing a man on the moon.

This is where the death penalty should be applied. Not for vengeance, but because the dude is legitimately a danger to society

I don't even support the death penalty except for people who escape from prison and do violence, or those who murder while in prison. In my mind, we should be doing absolutely everything we can do to contain or mitigate threats, even threats to people in prison... the death penalty should be a last resort if someone is in a maximum security facility and still manages to do violence, like the guy who managed to organize a murder in ADX Florence. Like, for me, the death penalty is only for if we can't contain a threat, so allowing for, let alone cheering for, random prisoners metting out the death penalty on others could never be consistent with that.

Does he not make enough to qualify for the affluenza defense? I mean, globally, he's definitionally in the top 5%, so it sounds like he makes too much to understand how bad he is. It is a valid precedent to avoid consequences of murder completely

When you get moved to a new cell and ask the usual "what are you in for", you do NOT want to hear "killing my last cell mate".

Once again an egregious oversight or even a malicious action. Classification officers are supposed to gather this data when they make housing determinations, and this kind of failure should strip them of their role (they're ineffective in their role) and be investigated for intent because anything that's at least wilful negligence should be criminal
