Golf legend Lee Westwood once hit the jackpot at the Cheltenham Festival. The prestigious festival has recently concluded for 2025 after four days of thrilling races. A crowd-puller for celebrities from sports to showbiz, this year saw former Superman actor Henry Cavill among the fans indulging in the festivities. However, it's not unusual to see one of these big names pocket a handsome sum of money on one of the races. Back in 2019, one-time world number one golfer Westwood won big at Cheltenham by scooping a huge £48,200 from a £240 stake. Westwood, 51, put seven selections in what's known as a Super Heinz bet and got off to a dream start when horse City Island stormed home at 8-1 in the Ballymore Novices' Hurdle race. The Super Heinz bet format consists of seven selections, combining them in 120 individual bets made up of all possible multiples from the selections. His gamble paid off when his first choice, City Island, galloped to victory at 8-1 odds in the Ballymore Novices' Hurdle. Westwood's winnings didn't stop there, with more triumphs coming from Topofthegame, Altior, Tiger Roll, Band Of Outlaws and Envoi Allen. He only missed the target with Killultagh Vic at the Coral Cup, reports the Irish Star. Taking to Instagram to celebrate at the time, Westwood said: "Boom. I love Betfair." The LIV Golf star had also previously bagged £22,000 in 2018 when he successfully predicted all seven winners on the festival's opening day. Westwood's passion for horse racing extends to ownership as well, with his classy mare Augusta Kate competing under his ownership via The Masters Syndicate from 2015 to 2018. Augusta was trained by Irish horse training titan Willie Mullins and made three appearances at Cheltenham, but her best performance was a sixth-place finish in the 2017 Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle. Westwood – who boasts a huge reported net worth of around £30.9m, largely amassed from his golf career – isn't the only star to strike it rich at Cheltenham recently. Hollywood actress Liv Tyler reportedly won big at the 2017 festival, while pop legend Rod Stewart, Fifty Shades of Grey star Jamie Dornan and ex-Manchester United footballer Paul Scholes have all enjoyed their share of winnings over the years. Ex-England star Scholes banked a cool £5,000, from a £2,500 bet, at this year's festival after backing Kopek Des Bordes in the Michael O'Sullivan Supreme Novices' Hurdle on the opening day. The festival reaches its peak with the Gold Cup, where the victor walks away with a staggering £625,000. This year, the Cup was clinched by Inothewayurthinkin, who thwarted Galopin Des Champs' bid for a historic hat-trick. The Mullins-trained horse had previously triumphed in the race in 2023 and 2024.
