The team behind a city centre takeaway and cafe have said goodbye to their spot on Deansgate after almost two decades. Turkish takeaway Hatty's closed its doors over the weekend after 19 years as a go-to, late-night food spot. Part of the wider Great Northern Warehouse development, the restaurant is located on what is known as Deansgate Terrace. It is situated alongside businesses including Lion's Den, Fort Coffee, and Acai And The Tribe. The spot, which many Mancunians will have paid a visit to post-night out, was known for its pizzas, wrap, kebabs and burgers, which were served until 2am on some nights of the week. "After 19 wonderful years, we are sadly closing down due to the end of our lease," confirmed takeaway owner Younes Valinejad. Speaking to the Manchester Evening News earlier this week, Younes expressed his sadness at the closure having worked for the business since 2009. "I've spent a lot of my life here and then overnight it's just gone, so it is hard," he said. "Covid was very difficult, then be reopened just at weekends, but it wasn't easy. It's hard work day and night. However, we are planning to open new place so staff can keep working with us, they've been with us a long time." Commenting on the closure, a spokesperson for Great Northern said: "Hatty’s has been a much-loved part of the Deansgate Terrace for nearly two decades and we’re incredibly grateful for their contribution to the community and the character of this iconic destination. “As their lease comes to a natural end, this marks the next exciting chapter in the evolution of the Deansgate Terrace, part of our wider ambition to bring together the best and brightest talent from across Manchester and the North-West to this part of the city. "Our vision is to curate a vibrant mix of food, drink and service experiences that meet the growing appetite and expectations of the area following the completion of the wider Great Northern redevelopment. After plans to transform the Grade-II listed building were approved, work on the £294m regeneration project was expected to start in 2024 and be completed in three phases, with the final stage finished by 2029. The site is made up of Great Northern Warehouse, Deansgate Terrace, a 1990s extension known as “the Leisure Box”, Deansgate Mews, and Great Northern Square. Approved plans also outlined that a glass bridge would be built between the warehouse and Deansgate Terrace to connect the buildings with improved access to Deansgate Mews where affordable retail space for independent businesses will be available. The approved plans also encompass a public space with Great Northern Square, which sits at the front of the Warehouse, to be transformed into a 'welcoming green oasis'.
