Leigh Halfpenny could be set for a return to France with big spending Beziers interested in acquiring his services, according to reports. Midi Olympique claim the Wales great flew out to the south of France to visit Beziers' facilities at the end of last week. The 36-year-old's Harlequins contract expires at the end of the season and while he is approaching the end of his career the former British & Irish Lions full-back will not be short of suitors. Halfpenny has enjoyed a glittering career which includes 101 caps for Wales and 801 points while he has also toured with the Lions on three occasions. He might not be the attacking threat of old but Halfpenny remains a deadly goal kicker and his error rate is very minimal while his experience is invaluable. Beziers currently reside in sixth spot on the PRO D2 table and are pushing for a play-off place which they hope will end in promotion to the Top 14. They have often been labelled the sleeping giant of the French game and were at one time an absolute powerhouse having won the Top 14 11 times, which is only bettered by Toulouse and Stade Français. But they have been moved between the top two divisions for the last 30 years. However, they were recently bought by a wealthy consortium which includes former All Blacks great Andrew Mehrtens and South African World Cup winner Bobby Skinstad, so are keen to splash the cash. Midi Olympique claim Halfpenny met with Skinstad who is the club's president and rugby director Johnny Howard. And Beziers will be hoping a signing of Halfpenny's quality can hasten their ascent to the promised land of the Top 14. Harlequins are known to be keen to retain Halfpenny for another season due to his experience and influence on younger players. Boss Danny Wilson recently said: "He's the last on the training field and always happy to help the younger pros with what they need, whether that's advice or physical work. "I've worked with him before so I had a fair idea of what he would bring to Quins. At this stage of his career he is one of the best out there. "He is a remarkable and model professional. If you want an example of how your Monday to Friday needs to work there is no one better than Leigh. "He is a slightly different player now to a few years back, but he still has unbelievable backfield management, kicking skills and his work under the high ball and linking plays together remains. He is a big-game player. "He's got that international mentality and enjoys pressure that comes with being involved in huge games."
