Liam Delap makes transfer preference clear as Ruben Amorim hatches Man Utd plan
@Source: mirror.co.uk
Liam Delap's transfer preference is to complete a move to a team who will allow him to play regular football. The Ipswich Town forward is said to be available for £40million this summer should the Tractors Boys fall back into the Championship. Manchester United have made the 22-year-old their primary target this summer and could yet face competition from Chelsea , Newcastle and Liverpool in the Premier League , in addition to several clubs abroad. And what could be crucial is persuading the former Manchester City youngster that he will not simply be a back-up in the forward line, according to the Daily Mail. Delap arrived at Portman Road in a £20m deal in the summer and Pep Guardiola's side could yet benefit from a summer deal. The Premier League champions are unlikely to activate the £40m buy-back clause they hold but are said to be entitled to 20 per cent of any profit made from a transfer. That could see United lining City's pockets should they be the team to prevail in the race for his signature. The Red Devils have struggled in front of goal, averaging scarcely over one goal per game in the Premier League. Delap meanwhile has scored 12 goals in 30 appearances in the division, more than any of United's squad. Bruno Fernandes is Ruben Amorim's top goalscorer with eight strikes, while Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have only mustered three-a-piece. Manchester United were believed to hold a shortlist of strikers that included Sporting ace Victor Gyokeres, RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, Victor Osimhen, on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli this term, and Eintracht Fankfurt's Hugo Ekiteke. Delap it seems has advanced his position ahead of them in United minds. Old Trafford boss Amorim has already revealed he wants to see two big signings arrive at United this summer. The Portuguese coach has only seen the additions of Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven since taking the hotseat in November. “But I just want to focus on our strengths and bring in one or two players - big players," Amorim said last week. "We need to focus and we are doing all the stuff to be next season so much better. "In my idea, I cannot manage this thing of ‘in four years we will try something’. We need to be so much better now. This is a massive club. The focus must be how to improve our team in every aspect. The Premier League is so difficult. “I hear a lot of people saying Sir Alex Ferguson won three or four years to win something - but it's not possible these days, because you have to give three interviews before every game, so the pressure is so much different. “But we are Manchester United . There are a lot of good things. No matter the pressure, we have to be there with the other big ones. We have to face a lot of adversity and a lot of big teams, more than in the past.” Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
