Tripoli, August 26 (QNA) - Libya’s Ministry of Interior announced Tuesday the deportation of 162 Nigerian migrants via Misrata International Airport. The ministry stated that the operation was organized in cooperation with the Department for Combating Illegal Migration and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). This move is part of Libya’s voluntary return program, coordinated with international organizations and relevant embassies. The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to continuing voluntary repatriation efforts in accordance with legal procedures and national and international standards. Earlier this month, Libya’s anti-illegal migration agency reported the detention of 350 undocumented migrants of various nationalities during a large-scale security operation in Tobruk municipality . In March last year, Libyan authorities announced the deportation of over 10,000 irregular migrants who had entered the country in 2023. Libya remains a key transit point for migrants attempting to reach Europe. (QNA)
