Liverpool could have Trent Alexander-Arnold back in action for the upcoming Merseyside derby against Everton, manager Arne Slot has confirmed. The England right-back has missed the Reds’ last two matches with a knee injury that forced him off during the second half of the 2-0 Premier League win at Bournemouth on February 1. However, Alexander-Arnold returned to partial training with Liverpool on Monday and Slot is hoping that a repeat showing on the eve of the game will see him back in contention for Wednesday’s rearranged trip to Goodison Park, with a final decision on his fitness to be taken on Wednesday. However, fellow defender Joe Gomez will play no part against Everton after suffering another setback during the early stages of Sunday’s shock FA Cup fifth round defeat by Championship strugglers Plymouth. Gomez had only just recovered from a hamstring issue that had seen him sidelined since the end of December but felt discomfort after only 10 minutes at Home Park and had to be replaced by youngster Isaac Mabaya. Slot has now admitted Liverpool’s concern that the problem is affecting the same leg with Gomez still undergoing further assessment. “Trent has done part of a training session with us yesterday so let's see how he is today,” the Dutchman told reporters at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday morning. “He will train hopefully with us again today and then we will decide if we take him to the game. “Joe, it's the same leg again where he had the injury last time so we are still assessing that but he will definitely not be available tomorrow.
