Lo Romero Invitational breaks records with help from sporting legends and big-hearted donors
In a spectacular fusion of sport and solidarity, Lo Romero Golf Invitational 2025 has raised a record-breaking €73,000 for the Lola del Pasico Residence, a centre for people with intellectual disabilities in Torre Pacheco. Held on Saturday, May 24, at the renowned Lo Romero Golf course in Pilar de la Horadada, the sixth edition of this charity tournament once again proved the power of generosity on and off the green.
Seventy-five golfers teed off not just for the trophy, but to support a project close to many hearts. The funds will help pay off loans tied to the recently inaugurated residence, a dream realized after years of tireless community effort. The facility, now home to 12 residents, promotes independent living for those with intellectual challenges.
“It was an honour to play and support such a noble cause,” said scratch champion Borja Vera, CEO of Votum World, who scored 71 and also donated prizes and funds.
Support from Sports Stars & Businesses
From tennis stars Carlos Alcaraz and Juan Carlos Ferrero to cycling legend Alejandro Valverde, and golfing icons like José María Olazábal and Miguel Ángel Jiménez, famous names rallied behind the cause—donating signed memorabilia and public support.
Spanish and international golf clubs—from Málaga to Berlin and Tangier—also chipped in. Tee boxes bore the names of the first 18 companies that donated, setting the tone for a day fuelled by goodwill.
A Day of Heartfelt Highlights
With a gourmet feast courtesy of chef Joaquín Madrid, and Estrella Levante beer on tap, the post-match celebration brought together sponsors, supporters, and players. Special thanks went to the Mediolanum Foundation, which added €10,000 for every €25,000 raised.
Winners of the day included:
1st Category Champ: Paco Cervantes (39 pts), 2nd Category Champ: José Alcaraz (42 pts)
Scratch Winner: Borja Vera
Longest Drive: Juan Pujadas
Closest to the Pin: José Carlos Rastoll (hole 12), Herminio Sánchez (hole 7)
The day ended with a raffle of 40 prizes and a collective sense of achievement, showing that when institutions fall short, people with heart step up.
Grand Opening of the Residence
Two days after the tournament, the residence was officially opened by Murcia’s regional president, Fernando López Miras, who praised Pedro Jiménez, the 91-year-old former mayor and driving force behind the project. “This home is the result of many generous hands and hearts,” said Ascensión Méndez, president of the managing association Prometeo.
A touching moment came with the delivery of two flags from Lo Romero Golf, bearing handwritten messages from Alcaraz and Ferrero:
“To our friends at Lola del Pasico, with love.”
Where bureaucracy stalls, compassion leads. Lo Romero’s invitational proves once again that generosity, sport, and solidarity make a winning team.
