Local nationalities support and welcome Tatmadaw for controlling Nawnghkio completely, will join hands with Tatmadaw in security and rehabilitation tasks
Nay Pyi Taw July 18
To ensure peace and tranquili-ty for the people, the Tatmadaw is launching counterterrorism operations military command wise. In doing so, the Tatmadaw completely controlled the areas around Taunghkam and Nawnghkio town, which were briefly occupied by terrorist insurgents, on 16 July, and the nationalities, who are residents of Nawnghkio, are celebrating in support of the Tatmadaw’s victory. Some of them who left their homes temporarily are returning back to their native land.
While the areas in and around Nawnghkio Township were under the brief control of the terrorist insurgents, local nationalities had to leave behind their homes and belongings, facing the evil consequences of war, which included human rights violations, and a drop in economic, social, health and education sectors. As the Tatmadaw had entirely controlled the areas in and around Nawnghkio, locals’ ardent support for and trust in Tatmadaw grew rapidly and they joined hands with the Tatmadaw.
As a means to help temporary displaced persons to repair their homes and reside again in them, and pursue a peaceful and happy socio-economic life, Tatmadaw columns are now following up on the task of restoring the government machinery after clearing land minds that were mercilessly planted by terrorist insurgents while they were briefly occupying the area and conducting security patrols to repair office, residential, religious, educational and health structures.
Additionally, today, a team of 118 departmental officials led by District Administrator U Kyaw Swe Win arrived in Nawnghkio town with necessary aid supplies, food items, and vehicles.
Their purpose is to provide essential assistance to local residents, reopen government offices as part of the administrative mechanism, resume schooling for children, and reopen hospitals to ensure public healthcare services.
The vehicles also carried food and household items donated by the Shan State Government, the Mandalay Region Government, and charitable citizens for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Taungkham area and Nawnghkio Township. Additionally, food and essential supplies provided by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief, and Resettlement were included in the shipment.
Local ethnic residents have expressed their eagerness to return home, having personally suffered the devastating effects of conflict. They voiced their strong desire for peace, wishing for their children to receive education peacefully, just like children in other stable regions. They also pledged to collaborate with the Tatmadaw in rebuilding Nawnghkio, which has suffered extensive damage due to terrorist acts. Furthermore, they shared that other civilians similarly hope the Tatmadaw will retake areas temporarily controlled by terrorists, restoring normalcy in social, economic, health, and educational aspects of life for local communities.
Currently, local residents, no longer able to tolerate the terrorists’ indiscriminate threats, arbitrary arrests, killings, torture, extortion, and destruction of peaceful villages, have increasingly placed their trust in the Tatmadaw. They are actively offering moral support, while the Tatmadaw continues to intensify necessary security operations to ensure public safety.
