SAVANNAH, Ga. () — A Riceboro native helped lead Team USA to a Women’s FIBA AmeriCup championship earlier this month.
Delisha Milton-Jones was an assistant coach on Team USA’s Women’s AmeriCup team that won the championship against Brazil 92-84 in early July.
Milton-Jones, after completing her studies at Bradwell Institute in 1993, rose to prominence as a standout player for the Florida Gators over a four-year span and later enjoyed a successful career in the WNBA.
In 2020, she took on the role of Head Coach for the Old Dominion Women’s Basketball team. By 2025, her expertise earned her a position as an assistant coach for Team USA in the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup.
Milton-Jones is also a two-time Olympic medal gold winner, earning them one in 2000 and another in 2008.
She said she hopes her experience coaching AmeriCup team will help earn her a selection to coach the Olympics.
“I believe this role will solidify my position within the Team USA Basketball organization in some form,” Milton-Jones remarked. “Being part of the 2028 Olympics would be an incredible opportunity, and I am hopeful for the chance to be involved.”
