Lorraine Kelly has finally broken her silence after she playfully scolded radio DJ Vernon Kay for his cringe-worthy Scottish accent attempt. On her show on Tuesday 11 March, the beloved TV host clarified that her rebuke was all in good fun, despite many taking it to heart. She did concede, though, that Vernon's attempt left much to be desired. "The Scottish accent is a beautiful thing that comes in many different varieties, and not everybody sounds like Billy Connolly," Lorraine quipped, referencing Vernon Kay's questionable mimicry. "Although I do love him and he is the bestest thing in the world!" She continued: "I was just asked to do that as a joke for Vernon Kay and it was very, very funny, but I think a lot of people thought I was being serious. I wasn't. His attempt at a Scottish accent was appalling though!" Vernon's original accent fumble happened on his Radio 2 show last Friday, prompting Lorraine to send him a tongue-in-cheek voice message. "Vernon, what are you doing? On behalf of Vernon Kay I would like to apologise to all of my fellow Scots for that incredibly offensive stereotype," she teased, reports the Mirror. She went on to jest: "So, to the people of Scotland, Radio 2 would like to speak once again for Vernon Kay and please rest assured he is being sent on a 16 week accent awareness course." Vernon Kay responded to Lorraine Kelly's comment with a playful retort: "Oh, I've been told, thank you Lorraine." Recently, Lorraine's fans were left puzzled when she sported sunglasses indoors during an interview with Vernon Kay's fellow BBC Radio 2 DJ, Scott Mills. On Friday 7 March, Scott addressed the unusual fashion choice, referring to her shades as the "most showbiz pair" of sunglasses. Lorraine then revealed the reason behind her eyewear. "Well, I fell over. I fell over and had washing in my hands, as you do in a big washing basket," she explained. "There was a step and then I fell over the step in my slippers; they're too big for me, and I landed on a rhino. We've got a massive big wooden rhino that we brought back from Africa. "Do you not have a wooden rhino? I thought everyone had a wooden rhino, and the thing is, it's made of real solid wood so I... and I couldn't stop myself because my hands were full of washing. Do you want to see it? Are you sure? Because it's horrid." After unveiling her eye injury by removing her sunglasses, Scott described it as a "cracker." Lorraine also mentioned that the swelling led people to speculate she had fillers, though she firmly denied having any.
