Louis Rees-Zammit has received a mixed reaction from fans for a new advert he stars in.
The Welshman, who is trying to make it in American football, appears in an advertisement for 'Slick Gorilla' - a hair-styling product. The promotional video involves a woman approaching the 24-year-old in the gym, and saying: "Are you that Louis Rees-Zammit guy?"
She mistakes him for a "famous soccer player" before complimenting his hair. Rees-Zammit replies: "Yeah, I do have really cool hair", before she asks what he uses to style it.
The post was made collaboratively with Slick Gorilla and has received a lot of attention, with cringing fans taking to the comments to say what they thought of the advert.
Some likened it to the amateur TV commercials contestants on the Apprentice often come up with.
"Deary me," wrote one.
"I’m a fan but these ads are so cringe…think you’re better than this," commented another.
"I’ve seen better acting in porn films," joked another.
The Welshman spoke to ITV as part of their coverage of the Super Bowl on Sunday evening, and revealed he would be making a decision on his future in the next week.
"Yeah, I'm looking for options," explained Rees-Zammit.
"I think in the next week or so we'll make a decision on where I am next year. But this past year has been crazy. A crazy experience. Mentally and physically it's been tough, but it's a journey I've always wanted to be on so I'm loving it."
Jacksonville Jaguars let Rees-Zammit's contract expire in January, so the Welshman is currently a free agent. While that may seem daunting, it's very common for a player's contract to run out, and then get re-signed a few months later.
He had first signed with the Kansas City Chiefs last year, but was cut from their squad after a pre-season with the franchise. Jaguars gave him a chance on their practice squad but he didn't get elevated to the main roster to play last season.
