@Source: newsweek.com
Major champion Hyo Joo Kim surprised everyone by shooting a final-round 64 at the Ford Championship to tie Lilia Vu for the lead after 72 holes. The Korean was able to capitalize on her momentum and defeat the American in a one-hole playoff.Despite the loss, Vu focused on the positives. After all, it was her first top-10 finish since finishing second at the AIG Women's Open last August."That I have what it takes, even with or without distance," Vu said about her main takeaway of the week. "I feel like that's something that's been lingering like a chip on my shoulder. I feel like I hit it shorter than everyone, and I feel like I start off the tournament handicapped.""But with the first two days I wasn't really hitting it anywhere, but I was still around in contention, so just knowing that. And then the body started to feel better. Mind started to feel better. I just went out there and had a lot of fun."The former World No. 1 also assured that she has achieved the main goal she came to Arizona with."I'm proud that I stuck to my goal, my weekly goal. The only goal is to be in tune with my body," she said. "I feel like I didn't start off too great in Asia, and this week was kind of a week that I would dedicate everything to being in tune with my body, not having aches and pains, and I got through four rounds of none of that. This is probably the most I've felt like me in the past year and a half."Vu began the final round leading the Ford Championship on 18-under. Her performance was solid, carding five birdies, but her only bogey of the day on the 9th hole prevented her from maintaining her lead.Kim, on the other hand, carded nine birdies and one bogey on Sunday to overturn a four-shot deficit from the previous day, briefly take the lead and eventually force a playoff. The Korean only needed a birdie on the first extra hole to clinch the title.It is Kim's seventh LPGA Tour victory and marks her return to the winner's circle, where she has been absent since 2023.The 29-year-old won the 2014 Evian Championship in her full major debut. A year later, she was granted membership to the American-based circuit, where she has remained ever since.More Golf: Min Woo Lee's 'Controversial' Pattern That Has Led to Houston Open Lead
