Lyall Cameron offers inside track on Rangers revolution and the project that will 'win leagues'

Lyall Cameron says he couldn’t say no to Rangers’ new project - and says he’s at Ibrox to help them win titles again. The midfielder was unveiled earlier today after joining the club on a free transfer from Dundee. Cameron agreed a pre-contract deal back in January and admits it was tough not to think about being a Rangers player while helping the Dens Park side stay in the top flight. But after checking in at Auchenhowie, the 22-year-old says he’s ready to be part of Russell Martin’s new-look squad. And Cameron is determined to play his part in getting Rangers back to the top in Scotland. He said: “It’s amazing to walk in the door, it’s a privilege really. I have been looking forward to it for a long time. “It was announced a while ago so I’ve been playing with that in the back of my mind for a couple of months. “But just to be here now in the building is just amazing. It was a no-brainer for me to come here, really. As soon as Rangers came up, I was desperate to be here. “Obviously it’s a massive club. The history and everything about it is amazing. “Being from Scotland, I know what the club stands for. “As soon as it came up, I just wanted to jump at it first thing. But obviously I’ve had to wait about for months since I knew it was going to happen. So it’s been a long wait but I’m delighted to be here. “It’s a new project here. They’re looking to build, improve and win leagues again. "That would be great to be part of. I want to come here, make an impression and do as well as possible to get this club back to where it belongs.” Cameron admits his form dipped immediately after agreeing a Bosman deal with Rangers at the turn of the year. But after re-focusing at Dens Park, he became an integral part of their survival bid under Tony Docherty. And he’s now looking for a fresh start at Ibrox where he’s hoping to take his game to another level. Cameron said: “It wasn’t easy because the expectations change when you sign for a club like this. “People expected a lot more from me and I went through a spell where I wasn’t playing my best football. “But once I got over that, I started to play better again. “Thankfully in the end, it was just enough to keep Dundee up so I’m glad about that. “Playing for Rangers will be different because we’ll be dominating the ball. At Dundee, we weren’t used to that as much. “But that’s a thing that suits my game so hopefully I will show that. “I hope being in this environment can push me on to the next level now. “Earlier in the season I was asked if I’d like to play for a club like Ranges and I said yeah. “I got a bit of slack for that at the time. But I just felt that to play for a club like this would be a dream come true. “And I just can’t wait to get started. “It’s a fresh start for me. “It’s a big change for me, moving through here. I’ve always lived at home. “The expectations are bigger so it will be a massive change. “I need to learn to deal with that but it’s something I’m really looking forward to.” Cameron was a stand-out for the Dark Blues last season and has become Martin’s first official signing as Rangers gaffer. The former Scotland Under-21 star believes his knowledge of the Premiership can help him settle at Ibrox. He said: “I know what to expect from teams in this league, which is a bonus. “I’ve played in Scotland for three years so I know what other teams will bring and what it’s like to go to different places. “From a personal perspective my numbers, in terms of goals and assists, were quite good last season for a midfielder. “So I enjoyed it in that way. But it didn’t come without difficult days, we had a few bad results. “We were hanging round the bottom of the league and no-one wants to be there. “But was a learning process for me. “I feel like I learned a lot of stuff at Dundee which can benefit me here going forward in my career.” Follow Record Sport on Twitter , Facebook and Instagram for all of the up-to-the minute breaking news, video and audio on the SPFL, the Scotland national team and beyond.
