Sean McCann, the brother of Madeleine McCann, is making waves as a potential Olympic athlete. Sean and his twin sister Amelie were just two when their sister vanished in Portugal's Algarve region 18 years ago. Now, at 20, Sean has emerged as an accomplished swimmer with prospects of joining Team GB for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. A recent snapshot shows him proudly sporting a gold medal after an open water swimming competition in the Mediterranean. Sean's impressive track record extends beyond the pool, with both he and Amelie excelling academically at university. Their great-uncle, Brian Kennedy, told the Daily Mail that parents Kate and Gerry are immensely "pleased" with the twins' accomplishments. Currently studying chemical engineering, Sean has been a competitive swimmer for nearly ten years. In 2023, he shared that he had been starting his days with 4am swims since the age of 11, and he attends the gym three times per week. His next goal is to represent Scotland at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, reports the Mirror. In a recent post on a local website, Sean reflected on his journey as a successful swimmer, having clinched "multiple county titles" after being chosen to swim at City of Leicester. He wrote: "At the age of ten, I was selected to swim at City of Leicester, and I have since gone on to win multiple county titles, as well as becoming regional and national champion in my age group. "In order to have achieved this, I have had to remain extremely dedicated, getting up at 4am multiple mornings each week to train." Sean represented Team Scotland at the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2023, making it to the 400 and 1500m Freestyle finals. He's also known for his passion for Open Water swimming, and is a member of the country's National Open Water Development Squad. On the other hand, his twin sister Amelie has her own sporting accolades, having participated in a series of cross country and triathlon events whilst studying at a university in the north of England.
