Indian compound archer Madhura Dhamangaonkar delivered a stellar performance at the Archery World Cup Stage 2, claiming her first individual gold medal after a nail-biting 139-138 victory over USA’s Carson Krahe. Despite a three-year hiatus from international competition, the 24-year-old archer showcased remarkable grit, overcoming an early setback to secure a historic win. Madhura had trailed 81-85 after the third end but held her composure, delivering near-perfect shots in the final rounds to edge past Krahe. This victory adds to Madhura’s silver medal in the women’s compound team event and a bronze in the compound mixed team category, partnering with Abhishek Verma. India’s compound archery teams also triumphed, earning gold, silver, and bronze across different team events: The men’s team (Abhishek Verma, Ojas Deotale, Rishabh Yadav) clinched gold, defeating Mexico 232-228. The women’s compound team (Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Madhura Dhamangaonkar, Chikitha Taniparthi) secured silver after a 221-234 loss to Mexico. The compound mixed team (Verma and Madhura) won bronze, defeating Malaysia. With compound archery debuting at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, India’s exceptional performance signals strong prospects for its first Olympic archery medal.
