But amid lobbying by the International Golf Federation, and players, for a mixed-team competition, LA officials opted to include the third competition in between the men’s and women’s individual events. “The International Golf Federation is thrilled with the IOC executive board’s decision to approve the addition of a mixed-team event to the Olympic golf program,” the IGF said in a statement. While details of how the event would run are to be confirmed, it’s understood the men’s competition would start on Wednesday – one day earlier than before – and end on Saturday. The mixed teams would then be held over two days, Sunday and Monday, with foursomes (alternate shot) used for one round and four balls (better ball) the other. There would be a day’s break, then the women’s event would be held. Golf is set to be played at Riviera Country Club, which is hosting the US Women’s Open for the first time in 2026. It’s unclear how many teams would compete in the mixed event and the qualification process, but it opens the door for the Lees, who both competed at the Paris Games, to play as a duo.
