A man has appeared before court today charged over the crash death of a cyclist. Devoted dad John Shelton, of Wigan , 'lived and breathed for his miracle five-year-old son', his family said in a tribute earlier this week. Keiran Hunt, 37, of Field View in Micklefield, Leeds appeared before Leeds magistrate's court today charged with causing death by dangerous driving and perverting the course of justice following the death of Mr Shelton. Mr Shelton, from Tyldesley, died after he was hit by a a Volkswagen Golf as he cycled in Ridge Road in Micklefield, close to the premises of Ridge Road Energy, on Monday, April 28, at 2pm. It is alleged the car left the scene and was later found burnt out. Mr Hunt was arrested alongside two other men. He was remanded in custody to next appear before Leeds Crown Court on May 30. The arrested men have been released on police bail. Following Mr Shelton's death, his wife Lucy paid a heartbreaking tribute to her 'much-loved' husband. She said: "Our John was a much loved dad, husband, son, brother, uncle, friend and colleague who was brought up in Little Hutton and settled in Astley, Greater Manchester. "John had a warm heart and would always try and help family, friends and colleagues. He lived and breathed for our five-year-old son who was our IVF/ICSI miracle and we were making plans over the coming months to make memories with our son. "John has been tragically taken from us following horrific circumstances of his death and life will never be the same again. He will be remembered as one of a kind and we will cherish our memories and they will live on as we navigate supporting our son with a life without his dad." West Yorkshire Police's Major Collision Enquiry Team is continuing to investigate. Anyone who can assist this investigation should call 101, or go online here, quoting reference 13250236829.
