Man City force Crystal Palace change as FA Cup final kits decided
@Source: manchestereveningnews.co.uk
Crystal Palace will change their socks for the FA Cup final to allow Manchester City to wear their home kit. The Eagles will still wear their most recognisable strip of red-and-blue shirts with blue shorts, but will wear white rather than blue socks to avoid a clash with City. That will allow Pep Guardiola and his team to wear blue on Saturday rather than being forced into a different kit. City wore their yellow-and-blue away strip when they headed to Crystal Palace for their Premier League meeting earlier this season. However, their two visits to Wembley this season have seen them wear blue. They won the Community Shield against United in their home kit and progressed past the Reds of Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup semi-final. Palace's alternative socks will allow both teams to line up in the kit they are most used to wearing as they look to claim silverware. City are aiming to win their second FA Cup in three years in what will be their third consecutive title, while Palace have never won the trophy in their 120 years of existence. Oliver Glasner's team gave City plenty of problems in their league meetings this season, twice taking the lead at Selhurst before being pegged back in a 2-2 draw and going 2-0 up at the Etihad in April before the Blues roared back with a 5-2 victory. Palace thrashed Aston Villa in the semi-final to book their place in the FA Cup final. While City will be in their home kit, it will be the 2024/25 shirts they are wearing rather than the new home kit featuring a sash for the first time that was revealed on Tuesday morning. That kit is expected to be worn for the first time at the Club World Cup. There, City have matches against Wydad Casablanca, Al Ain and Juventus in their group and will look to go deep in a competition that they won a much smaller version of back in 2023. Before that, though, the FA Cup and qualification for the Champions League next season offer Guardiola and his players a chance to end a difficult season on a high. City take on Palace at 4.30pm on Saturday before finishing their Premier League efforts with matches at home to Bournemouth and away to Fulham next week. --- Here at the Manchester Evening News, we’re dedicated to bringing you the best Manchester City coverage and analysis.
