Man City transfer could trigger five quick departures in busy window

Stoke City are hoping they have landed another Manchester City gem with the signing of Divin Mubama on loan. The former West Ham striker has gone to the Potteries for the 2025/26 season amid interest from a number of Championship clubs. City have regularly sent players to Stoke, and Ty Campbell was a big success after moving there permanently from the Blues in 2018. He earned a move to Sheffield United last year and scored in the play-off final, only for Sunderland to come from behind to condemn the Blades to another year in the Championship. Liam Delap went on loan from City to Stoke a few years ago, albeit his time there was less successful. After a productive year with City's Under-21s, Mubama will hope he can make a successful transition to senior football. Mubama's move could also trigger a familiar exodus as the standout players from City's academy head off for a taste of senior football. It has become a regular occurrence for those who are ready to leave academy football behind to leave the City Football Academy - either on loan or permanently - and once again there are a number of young talents who are hoping for a new challenge. A number of defenders will be ones to look out for this season after a title-winning triumph that was built on a steady backline. Jahmai Simpson-Pusey became the first ever defender to win the Premier League 2 Player of the Season award and his centre-back partner Max Alleyne also impressed. "I think at this level we've got the best two centre-backs in the league," coach Ben Wilkinson said. "Watching the youth league this year, you go a long way to find a better pair than those two. "Jahmai has had a great season and who knows what is next but he probably wants to leave U21 football and the fact he can leave it having lifted the Youth Cup at the end of last year and PL2 trophy this year means he can be really proud of his academy journey." Full-back Lakyle Samuel also fits into that bracket and midfielder Charlie Gray was attracting interest from Premier League newcomers Sunderland at the start of the summer. That looks to have died down but another move looks like the next step. It could also be time for Jaden Heskey to head out on loan with the 19-year-old one of the older players in the group. The attacking midfielder, one of two sons of dad Emile in City's academy, was an ever-present in the Under-21s last season and a new challenge would be a fresh test. All of these players will be looking to get moves sorted as soon as possible in order to spend as much of pre-season as possible getting used to their new surroundings. Mubama's move could trigger the rest to finalise their switches and set them up for a new and exciting challenge. --- Here at the Manchester Evening News, we’re dedicated to bringing you the best Manchester City coverage and analysis.
