A dangerous driver has been jailed after a much-loved rugby coach was killed in an M6 horror smash. Ghulam Haider is behind bars after causing the death of Cliff Tamou , of Wigan . The 58-year-old dad-of-six had got out of his broken-down lorry at about 10pm on February 27 this year when he was hit by a Toyota Avenis being driven by Haider. It happened on the M6 southbound between junctions 15 and 16 near Stoke-on-Trent. Haider, 22, of North Street, Dudley, was jailed for nine years and four months at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court today. He was also given a five-year driving ban which will start following his prison release. Mr Tamou was a 'devoted' dad and a respected figure in Wigan's rugby league circles, where he was well-known as a player, coach and referee for more than 30 years. The New Zealand-born granddad-of-five was also a well-known figure in women's rugby league around Greater Manchester, having coached and refereed. His daughter, Sarina Tamou, plays for Salford Red Devils. In a statement issued through Staffordshire Police, his family said: "Cliff was a devoted husband, father to six children and five grandchildren. "He was a lorry driver for many years and loved playing, refereeing and coaching rugby. The family have asked for their privacy to be respected in this very sad time." Chief Insp Scott McGrath, from Staffordshire Road Crime Team, said: "Our thoughts very much remain with Cliff's family at this difficult time. This is a tragic case of a completely avoidable death on our roads which has left a family without their loved-one. "I want to take this opportunity to emphasise that if you get behind the wheel of a car and drive dangerously, the consequences can be catastrophic."
