Man United stars support Scott McTominay as UEFA urged to step in over Scotland controversy

Multiple former and current Manchester United players have shown their support for Scott McTominay following his controversial penalty incident. Scotland were the first British team to feature in the international break as they faced off against Greece in the first-leg of their Nations League play-off on Thursday night. Former United midfielder McTominay was the Tartan Army's hero as his converted penalty gave Scotland a 1 -0 lead heading into the reverse fixture in Glasgow. However, the 28-year-olds spot-kick was far from easy. As McTominay lined up to take his shot, multiple blinding green laser beams could be seen targeting the Napoli player. Despite the glaring distraction, the Scotsman silenced the Greek fans, something which current and previous Man United stars have shown their admiration for. On an Instagram post published by McTominay following the game, captioned with a Scottish flag and blue heart, former Old Trafford stars Mason Greenwood , Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Phil Jones all 'liked' the statement picture. Despite the Scotsman now playing for Napoli, likes were also given by current United players such as skipper Bruno Fernandes , Christian Eriksen , Diogo Dalot and Englishman Harry Maguire. The Greece fans may feel hard done by as the penalty has been heavily disputed. McTominay seemed to have initiated the contact himself by accident after standing on the ball. Despite this, little sympathy was given following the shocking laser incident - with some fans even calling for UEFA to step in and punish those responsible. The Napoli midfielder is bound to be back in action on Sunday when Hampden Park welcomes Greece for the second-leg of their Nations League play-off bout on Sunday, March 23.
